Dam Busters At Rutland Water.
Posted by Craig Barr on
As I headed out on Rutland Water Once more, surely the consistency of the last few weeks would have slowed down somewhat? It was a bright, and a pretty warm day, with a 10mph SW wind.(Saturday) I had invited a friend along, whom had only fished Rutland twice in the past, with his best ever catch being 3. I had talked him into fishing here, as it had been fishing so well...No pressure!! Rutland Water is a huge vast area, and for many anglers, its just too big to contemplate a days fishing. I was recently speaking to a fellow angler who told me, " I have never fished Rutland, its just too big, and I just wouldn't know where to start!" " Very true, however nothing ventured nothing gained? Sleepless night, not because it was warm, but because of the build up of excitement at the prospect of getting back out fishing on Rutland Water. Wednesday the 3rd of June, was my first day back on the "Mecca" of fly fishing. Gone was the hot weather, and in came the dream fishing weather, cloud, good breeze, and still relatively warm. The set up at Rutland to enforce social distancing is excellent. The boat docking area is well signposted, and the staff more than helpful to point you in the right direction. I'd had a tip from the day before,...

Finally, the lock down has been lifted, and we can all go fishing again. I have never been so keen to go fishing in a long while. Not only are we all in partial lock down, we have also experienced the driest, and possibly warmest May for a long time - just what we wanted on our return to fishing ! With all the Anglian Water's not open at the time,(they are now) I decided to pay a visit to Toft Newton Trout Fishery, near Lincoln. When a youngster, this was the first fishery to open, so I visited here...
