Can One Fly Really Be All You Need On Anglian Waters At The Moment?
Posted by Craig Barr on
So, all the rumours are that the fish are very close to the shores on, Grafham, Rutland, and Pitsford. I am a realist, and appreciate not all fish will be hugging the shores, however for the past 7 weeks, I have barely fished in water deeper than 6', and had some scintillating sport, with browns up to 5.5lb, and rainbows up to 10lb ! So what's driving this? There is one obvious reason -fish food ! There has been unprecedented midge hatches in the margins this year, followed by 1000's, if not millions of daphnia flees, and now on top...

Posted by Craig Barr on
After a lot of fishing on Rutland over the last 7 days, competing in the Anglian/Airflo International Final, it was a pleasure to have a more relaxed approach by taking two clients on a tour of Rutland for their first ever visit ! When they told me there target was a big brown, I knew the pressure was one, however with one or two now making an appearance, it was a day of targeting weed beds, and they didn't disappoint ! I spent the day on Tuesday with local angler Kevin, who is a regular to Pitsford Reservoir. The sun was blazing, and the temperatures sored to dizzy heights, yet did the fish still want to play? - yes they did ! We started fishing in what is known as the Narrows. Rutland & Grafham Water - Black Flies Matter
Posted by Craig Barr on
A recent back to back two days fishing on Rutland & Grafham Water, threw up a very interesting tactic, enabling us to finally crack the code to success. If you have visited either of these lakes the last few days, you will be well aware there is a bit of colour in the water now - often the reason, or so we like to think, why we struggle ! Right? I was lucky enough to share a boat at Rutland, with a young angler who certainly will be a name to watch in the future, Preston's Kieron Donaghy. After hearing...
