16 Fish Average At Rutland !
Posted by Craig Barr on
As the UK basked in its first high temperatures of the year, many anglers may wait for that next "perfect day's conditions" to venture out again. My first day out recently was with Peter Scholes, based in Lancashire. Peter has never really got to grips with Rutland on previous visits, and wanted to see how I approach this huge expanse of water. The warm weather bought out the midges, and this just had to get the fish on the move, and it did. Peter and I headed to the Old Hall Bay, where, as predicted, we were met with rising...
Rutland, Then Grafham - Which One Came Out On Top ?
Posted by Craig Barr on
It has been a busy week taking anglers onto the Midland's top waters, Rutland & Grafham, and with them both in fantastic form of late, was it going to continue? First trip out was with Scotland's Ramsay Mgowan and Tyler Hay. After a "night before" catch up it was time to show these boys the big "R". We headed South, and parked up along the fence at Gibbets Gorse, where I new fish had been holding for some weeks. It wasn't long until both Tyler and Ramsay hit into fish, fishing buzzers on floating lines. The fish were noticeably close...
Sweet As Candy At Rutland

As many of you may already have been aware, I have set up camp at Rutland Water this last week, fishing there 4 days of this last week. First up was Essex based Martyn who had never fished Rutland before. It is no secret that the North Arm of Rutland has been in scintillating form for the whole of April, so this was our starting point for the day. We started at the dead tree in the water at the Transformer. It was just moments later that Graham hit into fish, pulling on a fast glass line. I too got...
RAF Raid On Rutland

It was a pleasure to share a boat with Drew Mcintosh recently on Rutland, however the weather on the day was not so pleasurable, blue skies, accompanied by a strong Easterly wind. This certainly wasn't going to hamper our enthusiasm. Drew is part of the RAF fly fishing team, and wanted to learn a trick or two.....though the conditions restricted the presentation options, I'm sure he picked up a tip or two. It is no secret that the basin at Rutland at this time of year tends to hold a big number of fish, and this was recently aided by...

Easy Life to Hard Life At Rutland Water
Posted by Craig Barr on
Rutland can be a test at the best of times, however it can also harbour some magnificent times, as well as magnificent fish! Friday saw me afloat with a local angler, Sam Smith who wanted to learn a few tips on boat fishing. Rutland is still at that pivotal point where it is still getting over the previous warm weather, and the raised water temperatures, though there are now signs, as the water temperatures are clearly dropping, that the fishing is coming to life. A daddy sits on the water.....a great pattern to be using now. . We headed to...
