16 Fish Average At Rutland !
Posted by Craig Barr on
As the UK basked in its first high temperatures of the year, many anglers may wait for that next "perfect day's conditions" to venture out again. My first day out recently was with Peter Scholes, based in Lancashire. Peter has never really got to grips with Rutland on previous visits, and wanted to see how I approach this huge expanse of water. The warm weather bought out the midges, and this just had to get the fish on the move, and it did. Peter and I headed to the Old Hall Bay, where, as predicted, we were met with rising...
Did Pitsford Or Rutland Come Out On Top This Week?
Posted by Craig Barr on
The long awaited sunshine and heat has finally arrived, though not an anglers favourite! However it hasn't yet dampened the fishing at Anglian Waters. I spent the day on Tuesday with local angler Kevin, who is a regular to Pitsford Reservoir. The sun was blazing, and the temperatures sored to dizzy heights, yet did the fish still want to play? - yes they did ! We started fishing in what is known as the Narrows. A light Easterly wind, combined with early warmth, allowed for a steady hatch of buzzers. This dictated our set up, as we both went for...

Last Peg Dash, Nails The Cash !! Who Won Today's Singles Match?
Posted by Craig Barr on
Farmoor1 reservoir has a reputation for producing some "stonking" fish, and it did not disappoint today either ! Today was the 2nd year of the Farmoor1 Bank Singles match, fished by 39 anglers, all chasing one of 3 cash prizes, £800, £400, and £250 Many of the competitors fished a practice day, with some big bags reported, but as we all know, things can change overnight, and they did. All anglers chose their own peg draw card, and made there way to their first peg of the day. It is always important to get off to a good start, and...
Rutland, Then Grafham - Which One Came Out On Top ?
Posted by Craig Barr on
It has been a busy week taking anglers onto the Midland's top waters, Rutland & Grafham, and with them both in fantastic form of late, was it going to continue? First trip out was with Scotland's Ramsay Mgowan and Tyler Hay. After a "night before" catch up it was time to show these boys the big "R". We headed South, and parked up along the fence at Gibbets Gorse, where I new fish had been holding for some weeks. It wasn't long until both Tyler and Ramsay hit into fish, fishing buzzers on floating lines. The fish were noticeably close...
Is this going to be Rutland's best ever season??
Posted by Craig Barr on
I have fished Rutland now for 37 years and I cannot remember fishing like this. Opening day, yes you can fill the boat, however 7 weeks in and it is still delivering fantastic catches, and its showing no sign yet, in slowing ! I have fished Rutland 3 times this week, and my personal average has been 20 fish, and our boat average 33. I never normally mention numbers, however chose to this time round, as I really wanted to get across the fishing that is on offer at the Midland's premier water at this current moment. My first day...
